From the Wild Goose website; The popular variety from Alsace. A small clustered variety that produces beautiful aromatic wines every vintage. Intense spice, rose petal, and lychee nut are the most common characteristics of this wine. Our Style-This is our trademark wine. Wild Goose has made one of the top Gewürztraminers in B.C. since our inception back in 1990. Slightly dry in finish and intense rose petal aromatics are the patented Wild Goose flavours extracted and put into every bottle. A must have wine every vintage!

- French hot chocolate – thick, creamy (even without the side of whipped cream), spicy, aromatic, smooth… served in a demi-tasse. Only at Sweet & Savoury in pleasant Mount Baker area. Hours are limited, so call and check. Perfect day was when Friiend and I had hot chocolate on the street on the wrought iron table/chairs (how very Parisian cafe!) with the Blue Angels flying overhead. Thanks to Seattle Bon Vivant for the recommendation. If I were to have a summer home in Seattle to relax and blog, I would rent to space above the cafe. Up Jackson in Chinatown, turn right on 31st. That’s how you get there before 2pm, and not on Mondays.
- Nordstrom- ‘enuff said. Also Nordstrom Rack.
- Barneys New York – for Revive products, Balenciaga bags, Serge Lutens perfume and good deals.
- Ivar’s - salmon chowder (also at Bellis Fair)
- Uwajimaya – Extensive collection of Bee House teapots from Japan, Asian Pear wine, beauty products, and the bookstore!!! (Chinese, japanese, english – asian american literature, asian songbooks, japanese magazines, art books, stationary!)
- Chinatown/International District – all those Vietnamese grocery stores. Fresh pandan leaves, Vietnamese french bread, coffee etc.
- Beecher’s Handmade Cheese – Eat cheese and watch them make it at the same time. Notables are the mac and cheese, and the must buy is their signature cheese. I will never go back to french cheese again! Definitely will appeal to all palates.
- Metropolitan Market – our must go. Open 24 hours, best locations are Queen Anne and Mercer. Coffees: Queen Anne blend (smooth and creamy) and Breakfast Blend. I stopped drinking Starbucks after a taste of this. Pear tart, breads, Broccoli and Cheese soup and Tomato Basil soup in bulk. Remember the butter next time. Waiting for local strawberry season (juicy and sweet!) – nothing like those crispy tasteless monsters we have here. Newly discovered the Ruben/Reuben sandwich.
- Kahili Coffee – Kona coffee in Kirkland?
- Dick’s Drive-In – $1.90 for a strawberry milkshake. Half the size of a McDonalds, but can’t beat quality. At least you can suck this one up. 24 hours.
- Le Panier – the very French bakery in Pike Place. Always crowded. Perfect for breakfast pastries. Cafe Umbria coffee. Smells heavenly.
… definitely more to come…

So I learned the hard way that you never have cold liquids with hot cheese fondue. Then the cold hits the hot, the cheese gets hard and clumps up in your stomach. Taken from a co-worker who went to school in Switzerland, you have cheese fondue with the liquor that’s in the cheese… kir. Hot kir at that.
No kir here, but I heard that a nice bottle of K.W.V. Chenin Blanc from South Africa goes perfectly with cheese fondue. Available at your local BC Liquor Store, it’s under the name Robert’s Rock Chenin Blanc (K.W.V.’s brand – good thing for superior Google skills).
From the Food Network:
Chenin Blanc Pairing Notes
Description: This Chenin Blanc is very aromatic with floral, grassy, white peach, pear and apple aromas. On the palate it is medium bodied with soft green apple and pear flavours, a touch of sweetness, and refreshing acidity through to the finish.
Why they match: This dish is rich, creamy, and a bit pungent from the stronger Gruyere cheese. The wine has enough sweetness and body to stand up to the strong cheese flavours and rich texture, but it is fruity and crisp enough to contrast and cleanse the palate.
Wine Suggestion: K.W.V. Chenin Blanc (South Africa).
